Our Issues

In my work as a Program Coordinator for Beaufort County, I saw how important law enforcement can be in addressing many of the needs of the county that most don’t think or know about. We call on law enforcement to wear more than just the badge and they very often embrace those opportunities. I want to make sure that they are not only adequately resourced, but that they are adequately compensated and that they are provided every available resource to do all the community expects of them as well as what they need in order to meet the requirements, they set for themselves for community engagement.

We often ask law enforcement to take on the task of mental health counselors. I believe we can relieve some of that burden by revisiting and fully funding such initiatives as the Crisis Response teams that place mental health counselors with police officers.

As your District Representative, I pledge to do all that I can to enhance the Crisis Intervention program that the County has already implemented by advocating for the hiring of more counselors and mental health professionals to work with law enforcement. We can support law enforcement as well as the greater community with a fully funded program that addresses the growing homeless population. I will do all that I can to support and enhance positive community involvement with local law enforcement. I further pledge to so I can to support and provide them with whatever they need to address gun violence and gang activity.
